MMMEurope (Mouvement Mondial des Mères - Europe) |
The “Mouvement Mondial des Mères” (MMM) or “World Movement of Mothers” is an international, apolitical and non-denominational NGO that was created in 1947 and has a consultative status with the United Nations. Its mission is to promote the role of the mothers to local and international institutions, and as such to act as the voice of mothers. MMM affiliates 64 associations in more than 40 countries and represents more than 6 million women. MMMEurope, which is part of MMM, directs its efforts to European institutions and policy makers concerning the mother’s impact on the educational, cultural, and economic development of their country. MMM Europe considers Europe’s mothers as significant actors and decision makers in the essential processes determining the sustainability of any future envisioned for Europe. The following quotes of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, in a message he delivered on the International Day of Families, 15 May 2009, recognises the importance of mothers: “Mothers play a critical role in the family, which is a powerful force for social cohesion and integration. The mother-child relationship is vital for the healthy development of children...One factor remains constant: the timeless importance of mothers and their invaluable contribution to raising the next generation". Role within FAMILYPLATFORM: MMM Europe is responsible for international networking, a focus group concentrating on parenting that will take place during the Lisbon Conference, and jointly responsible (with the Austrian Institute for Family Studies, University of Vienna) for work undertaken as part of Future of Families.
