    The Institute for International and Social Studies (IISS) of Tallinn University (TLU), Estonia, will support the whole project with longstanding competence in international project management. Within the project creating Family Platform, IISS will be lead partner of the thematic branch “Families and their living environments”.

    TLU exists as a central training and research establishment in Tallinn, focusing its activities besides teacher-training also to the humanities, and social and natural sciences. The IISS was founded in 1989 under the name of Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, and since 1994 it has worked as the IISS. Academic work at the IISS concentrates on the problems of post-socialist societies in transition. IISS deals with issues such as stratification processes and educational inequalities in post-Soviet Estonia, changing values and ways of life in Estonia, family formation and welfare, inter-ethnic relations and ethno-politics, the reconstruction of a civil society, post-socialist cultural, social, and political transformations, and international relations. The Institute is currently engaged in a number of international research projects, but has also carried out several applied studies in co-operation with ministries, other state institutions and stakeholders in the field.

    TLU is responsible for Existential Field 4: Family and Living Environments.
